A Sárospataki Képtár Domján kiállítása jelenleg nem látogatható!
A sárospataki művelődési intézmények felújítása miatt, Domján József életmű kiállítása előreláthatólag 2020 közepéig nem látogatható. 2020 második felétől új Domján életmű-kiállítást állítunk fel majd. Addig is köszönjük türelmüket.
A SÁROSPATAKI KÉPTÁR
1968-ban jött létre Béres Ferenc énekművész kezdeményezésére. A kezdetben a Rákóczi Várban működő intézményt a városi tanács tartotta fenn. A képtár gyűjteményei elsősorban adományokból származtak. Béres Ferenc saját képzőművészeti gyűjteményének egy részét adományozta a városnak. Bíztatására azonban sok művész is adott kisebb-nagyobb kollekciókat a gyűjtemény gyarapítására.
A 70 es években két nagyobb kollekció került az intézmény tulajdonába. Domján József Amerikában élő Kossuth-díjas fametsző művész adományozta saját műveiből és képzőművészeti gyűjteményéből álló anyagát a városnak, 1979-ben pedig Andrássy Kurta János szobrászművész adományozott egy életmű nagyságrendű anyagot. Mind két adomány épület kialakítással is járt. A Domján-gyűjteményt az egykori Szinyei Gerzson pataki tanár tulajdonában lévő házba helyezték el felújítás után. Andrássy Kurta János munkásságát pedig a várnegyedben kialakított egykori katolikus iskola épületben új Képtár épületben (ma Szent Erzsébet út 14.) mutatták be a nagyközönségnek. Ekkor került át a Képtár székhelye a Rákóczi Várból ide. A Képtár 2013 óta újra Sárospatak Városának fenntartásában működik.
A Képtár gyűjteményei elsősorban a 20. századi magyar művészet bizonyos korszakait reprezentálják. Gyűjteménye nagyrészt adományként, illetőleg vásárlás útján jött létre.

Due to the renovation of the cultural institutions in Sárospatak, the exhibition of József Domján's oeuvre is not expected to be open until mid-2020. From the second half of 2020, we will set up a new Domján exhibition of oeuvre. In the meantime, thank you for your patience.
SÁROSPATAK ART GALLERY
The original collection of the Sárospatak Art Gallery was founded in 1968 on the initiative of a Hungarian folk art singer called Ferenc Béres. In the beginning the institution operated in the Rákoczi Castle and it was maintained by the city council. The collection of the gallery primarily came from donations. Ferenc Béres donated part of his own fine arts collection to the town. His initiative was followed by lots of artists who also gave smaller or larger gatherings to enrich the collection.
In the 70’s two major donations became part of the collection. Joseph Domján, a Kossuth prize winner woodcut artist donated part of his own works and fine arts collection to the town, and in 1979 János-Andrássy-Kurta, a sculptor presented his life-scale collection to the gallery.
Both donations resulted in finding new buildings for the collection. The Domján collection was placed into a house owned by a former Sárospatak teacher, Szinyei Gerzson. The other artists life-work was introduced to the public in a former Catholic School within the Castle District. At that time the gallery was transferred from the castle to the present building (Saint Elizabeth Street 14). The Art Gallery has been maintained again by the town of Sárospatak since 2013.
The collection represents primarily certain periods of the 20th century Hungarian art and research can be done with permission.
